SICARDY Louis Marie (1743-1825), PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN , THE LAST MINIATURE OF THE ARTIST, 1816
Moving testimony of Sicardy who signs here his last work, in 1816. The great miniaturist, official artist of Queen Marie Antoinette et of her disappeared court, specifies under his signature that he is then 73 years old. Humility ? wanting to excuse a dotted line that he considered less prodigiously invisible ? or the pride of an elderly man who still give us a brilliant portrait ?! This work is the last miniature by Sicardy, he then made some rare paintings and drawings, before dying in 1825 This miniatutre is described by Michel Lauraine in his work: Louis Marie Sicard, dit Sicardi 1743-1825: Biography, JePublie, 2005 It was sold by Leo Schidlof in Vienna in 1926, and quoted in his 1964 dictionaryTECHNIQUE:
