MUNERET Jean-Désiré , PORTRAIT OF Jacques Armand DE GUERRY DE MAUBREUIL DE BEAUREGARD IN 1812, WITH HIS FAMILY

TECHNIQUE: Watercolor and gouache on ivory, protected under glass

ARSTIST: MUNERET Jean-Désiré et école française du XVIIIe siècle

SIGNED: Muneret 1812

FRAME : Original Empire ebony and gold case

PORTRAIT SIZE: 6.5x5.5cm

FRAME SIZE: 13x 7.5 x 1.5cm

DESCRIPTION :

Rare ebony travel case, with gold hinge and frames, decorated with typical Empire gold stars.

One of the four portraits is signed by Muneret and dated 1812. It is doubtless at this date and by this officer, that was realized this assembly of his own portrait with that of his  family ( three other portraits being of the French school of the 18th century).

We thank  Mr. Lorenzini for the precious searches which he made on this portrait to find the identity :

the portrait signed by Muneret is the one of Jacques Marie Armand de Guerry de Maubreuil de Beauregard, in officer's uniform of light-horsemen of the royal Guarding westphalienne.

An identical portrait to Muneret’s miniature, with the precision that this portrait is reproduced from an unsigned miniature belonging to the Institut Pasteur (there would therefore be at least two copies of this miniature, the one by Muneret and that of the Pasteur Institute)

.As a result, here are the most plausible identifications for these four characters (in chronological order, or from left to right and from bottom to top):

-Bonaventure Armand de Ménardeau de Maubreuil (1735-17?), in dragon captain’s uniform circa 1750-1760

- most likely his daughter, Bonne Marie Félicité de Ménardeau de Maubreuil (1765-1783)

-his son, Bonaventure Armand de Ménardeau de Maubreuil (1767-1789), in the page dress of the Maison du Roi, circa 1780-1785

-his grandson, son of Bonne Marie Félicité and Jacques Louis Marie Guerry de Beauregard (1765-1815), Jacques Marie Armand Guerry de Beauregard de Maubreuil (1783-1868), in the uniform of officer of the light knights of the Westphalian Royal Guard, painted in 1812 by Muneret.
