Important miniature of Napoleon III period, signed and dated below on the right : 69 a.c. Molénat.

Auguste Cyprien Molénat exposed to the Salon from 1859 till 1879. He painted in 1867,  a miniature portrait of empress Eugénie.

Close to the esthetics of the Venus  by Alexandre Cabanel, this Daphnée by Molénat, showing of the hand two butterflies, illustrates  the taste of  second Empire. Doubtless a real portrait on the base, this impressive work in its luxurious frame could be a work Salon.
