FRENCH SCHOOL 18TH CENTURY, PORTRAIT OF A SINGER (THE TENOR PAUL MANDINI ?) ,MINIATURE CIRCA 1791.
Rare portrait of a singer, end of the XVIIIeme century. Probably the portrait of Paul Mandini (1747-1842), tenor in Paris, in King's brother's opera, from 1789 to 1792. It is conventional to represent the artists in this way during XVIIIeme century : the mouth open for the singers, eyes raised towards the sky for the actors. Both looking at the sky to find the sublime of the Inspiration. D. Gorchkoff identified the uniform as one of 57th regiment of infantry (Beauvoisis) in 1791. Real uniform or theatrical costume? We know that the Revolution develops the use of the outdoor music to celebrate its most polular parties. Gossec, Méhul, Chénier, among others, will contribute to the creation of works as "Le chant du départ", "Le chant de guerre de l\'armée du Rhin" which will became "La Marseillaise". To compare, the portrait of Mandini in Louvre museum and few pictures of famous actresses of 18th century (Sophie Arnoult, Madame saint Huberty...).TECHNIQUE:
