DESCRIPTION :

Portrait of Maria-Theresa  (Maria Theresia Walburga Amalia Christina von Hapsburg), (1717-1780). Archduchess of Austria, Queen of Hungary, Bohemia and Croatia, by marriage, she was a duchess of Lorraine and grand duchess of Tuscany. More known in France as the mother of Queen Marie-Antoinette.

Painted circa  1750, this portrait of Empress Maria-Theresa, is painted with watercolor on a very thick plate of ivory, characteristics of techniques used on this time. This portrait reminds the portrait of the Empress by Liotard, but in a slightly different version. The meticulous work of the depiction of laces is remarkable.

The miniature preserved its wooden frame,  sculptured and gilded, surmounted of a blue crown. He can form a counterpart in the portrait of Frederick IV of Saxony (on sale separatly), just the crown differs.
