FRENCH SCHOOL 18th CENTURY, MINIATURE PORTRAIT OF THE ACTOR HENRI LOUIS CAIN SAID LEKAIN (1729-1778)
Miniature portrait of the famous actor Lekain (1728-1778), in the role of Genghis Khan in the Opera "the Orphan of China" by Voltaire (1769). Another large version painting exist made by Simon Bernard Le Noir. Lekain was one of the greatest actors of his time. One day he had played for king Louis XV, King said :"This man made me cry, me who never cries." He married the actress Clairon, was protected by Voltaire, was the master of Talma and became in the end of his life, member of the Comédie-Française.TECHNIQUE:
