The miniature is identified inside : Marie de Maleville, baroness de Bastard, Paris 1869.

Cécile Villeneuve was a pupil of Léon Cogniet, then of François Meuret. She is rightly regarded as the most talented of the last miniaturists of the 19th century.

The work is preserved in its exceptional chiselled ormulu frame, with the crowned figure of Baroness Marie de Bastard, signed by the Maison Alphonse Giroux.


CONDITION: Very good condition. A crack restaured on left border
