CHARLIER Jacques (1720-1790) STUDIO OF, VENUS AND LOVE, CIRCA 1770
Love, dreamer, contemplates the navel of Vénus, or "Omphalos", renown for its mythical beauty. Charlier often took over the paintings of his contemporary François Boucher, he also created many miniatures subjects. Painter to the King, having an immense success, he had a studio near the Palais-Royal where he trained many students. This probably explains why we often find two versions of the same miniature (between the Louvre Museum and the Wallace Collection for example). This miniature has a different version to the Wallace Collection, where Venus is sleeping in a garden. TECHNIQUE:
