DESCRIPTION :

Known as one of the most important miniatures painted by Pierre Adolphe Hall, this famous miniature was reproduced by Henri Bouchot in 1907 in its work on the French miniature and exhibited in 1906 in the national Library of Paris..

It shows in a garden, the Viscountess de Renouard de Bussière. Born Marie-Suzanne Doucet de Surigny ( 1751-1825 ),  she married Etienne-Cyprien Renouard de Bussière ( 1734-1794 ). He is the author of the quatrain  on the lapel of  frame :

"...portrait oh juste de celle qui m'est chère-qu'on juge par lui qu'elle doit plaire-----peindre son coeur..." (" portrait oh just of the one who is dear to me that we judge by him that she has to please-----to paint her heart... ").

 Towards the end of the Revolution, Marie-Suzanne and her husband were also painted by her sister-in-law, the miniaturist Jeanne Doucet de Surigny

Provenance : countess Edmond de Pourtalès ( 1836-1914 ), been born Mélanie Renouard de Bussière.
