DESCRIPTION :

Magnificent portrait paints by Mrs Cécile Villeneuve, signed to the right. The miniature is identified inside as the portrait of Marie de Cagny, painted in Paris in 1870.

Cécile Villeneuve was a pupil of Léon Cogniet, then of François Meuret. She is considered, rightly, as the most talented of the last miniaturists of the XIXeme century.

She was very sought for her children's portraits, full of an inimitable freshness. The miniature presented here is one of these masterpieces: the artist makes blow on the smiling face of the girl and in her hair, as a light breeze.
