DESCRIPTION :
At the center of the composition a young man hesitates.
On his right, a maquerelle offers a young woman naked and offered. On his left, the family values (his wife neglected, his ancestor symbolized by the urn where there is a portrait of an artist engraved) and religion (the priest) call him.
Here, the artist gives a lot of importance to signs and gestures. Each hand is a message (the matchmaker puts her hand in the young man's pocket, him listens to his family, a hand on hear, but refers to the young woman of the other, the hand of the priest welcomes ...)
