Louis Vigée (1715-1767), PORTRAIT OF A MAN , MINIATURE CIRCA 1760
Louis Vigée was a member of Saint Luc's Academy. He had married, on July 20th, 1750, Jeanne Maissin whose two children he had. He is the father of Elisabeth Vigée le Brun, famous portrait painter and of Étienne Vigée, man of letters and theater. He died young, having augured the international career of his daughter. More known for his portraits with pastel, he also seems to have made miniatures. There is another version of this miniature, also on Ivory (but broken) signed : L. Vigée fecit, (private collection), see last picture. Doubtless Louis Vigée made a version with pastel of this portrait and several reductions in miniature for snuff boxes (where from the rectangular format).TECHNIQUE:
