DESCRIPTION :

Large miniature of the 1790s, signed to the right by Jean-Urbain Guérin : J. Guerin F.

The portrait shows a smiling young woman, wearing  long red  curly hair, whose some locks are kept in the lapel of the large gold pendant.

The portrait is characteristic of the artist's work at that time. The young women wear fine dresses of gauze and long hair "au naturel". Represented by profile as the duchess of Devonshire and Elisabeth Foster ( Wallace Collection), or in front but always keeping this influence of pompeii frescoes, as the portrait of the Louvre (inv. RF 30715) or that of the Pauline d' Arenberg (Tansey Foundation ref 10269). Then Guérin will slide little by little towards head-and-shoulders portraits, less ethereal and more realistic, as this one, joining his production of the 1790s in 1795.

The miniature keeps on the reverse a note about the identity of the young woman: "of the family Chabot de Peuchebrun (Pechebrun), Poitou".
