PORTRAIT OF Claude François Philogène RENOUARD DE SAINTE-CROIX, COMTE DE FLEURY, MINIATURE CIRCA 1760
Very fine miniature portrait dating years 1760/70 and showing Claude François Philogène Renouard de Sainte-Croix, count de Fleury, Lord of Villayer. Represented in armor, raising a cross of Saint-Louis, the count is represented in bust turned and looking towards the right. The miniature is identified with the lapel by an old writing with feather: " Claude François/de Renouard/Comte de Fleury/acquéreur du / marquisat de/ Ste Croix en/ 1759 et mort en/1771 " The date of death allows to date this portrait before 1771. Unfortunately unsigned, this work of very high quality illustrates the talent of the miniaturists under the reign of Louis XV, artists on whom many remain to discover, although they were teachers of the most famous miniaturists of the following generation: Dumont, Perin, Sicardy...TECHNIQUE:
