DESCRIPTION :

We knew by François Dumont, the portraits of the Duke and the Duchess d' Aumont (sale Sothebys 1982 and market of art, Vienna 2007). Antoinette Marguerite Henriette de Mazade maried in 1771 Louis Alexandre Célèste d'Aumont, Duke de Villequier. Close friend of the Royal family, the couple possessed several miniatures of this artist.

This miniature reveals us the portrait of their daughters, also painted by François Dumont, among which the touch is so caractéristiques.

-The elder, Constance Louise Antoinette Aglaë d' Aumont (1773 or 1776-1847). The girl is held to the left of the green cradle, with left hand she closes the curtain, of the other one, she makes a sign a silence to her small dog.

-Jeanne Louise Constance Guillemette Henriette d' Aumont (1775 or 1778 -1852). Situated to the right of the cradle, she looks at her sister and  try too to calm the young dog too.

-present, but not visible, their younger sister, born one year after Louise Constance : Louise Henriette Victoire d' Aumont,  slumbers in the cradle, under the nurse of her two sisters.

This allows us to date exactly the work of 1776 or 1779. Indeed, there is a gap of three years between the dates written by the family on the cartel of ivory and in the genealogy.

François Dumont painted here, with success, oan affecting family portrait full of charm, momentariness and humor. A rare portrait of the childhood.
