PORTRAIT OF Hélène DE MECKLEMBOURG-SCHWERIN, DUCHESS D'ORLEANS, IN MOURNING, CIRCA 1842
This portrait represents Hélène de Mecklembourg-Schwerin, Duchess of Orléans, in dress of mourning, thus after 1842, date of the death of her husband. Several other versions of this portrait are in the princely collections of Europe -3 by François Meuret among whom one to the museum Condé (Chantilly), the other one coming from Count de Paris (sold at Sotheby's in 2015) and an other one in Royal Collection of London, offered by the duchess d'Orléans to the Queen Victoria in 1846 -A version by John Simpson ( 1849 ) is also in Royal Collection (RCIN 422184) - A version by brien Franz O' Brien (1854) is in colection of the Queen of Netherlands. Our version is maybe signed under the marie-louise, but the frame is hermetically closed and thus was not opened for check. TECHNIQUE:
