DESCRIPTION :

Historic miniature showing the duke of Penthièvre (grandson of Louis XIV) in the battle of Fontenoy (in 1745), after Jean-Marc Nattier's painting.

Louis-Jean-Marie de Bourbon, duke of Penthièvre, Aumale (1775), Rambouillet (1737), Gisors, Châteauvillain, Arc-en-Barrois, Amboise, count of Them and Lord of the duchy of Carignan, admiral and master of the royal hounds of France, was born in the castle of Rambouillet (November 16th, 1725) he dies in the castle of Bizy in Vernon (Eure) on March 4th, 1793.

The miniature is preserved in  its rare frame of origine, to the lapel of which an old erroneous inscription gives the portrait as the one of Louis Ferdinand, Dauphin of France. We recognize in this portrait the Duke de Penthièvre, according to Jean-Marc Nattier's painting of 1745.
