LAURENT Jean-Antoine (1763-1832), THE BOY WITH A ROSE, CIRCA 1790
Beautiful portrait of the end of the 18th century by Jean-Antoine Laurent (1763-1832). The miniature shows a fair little boy in blue costume, moving forward in a garden. Of a hand he presents a rose, of the other one he throws a branch of laurel. This composition starts again by inverting it, that of the portrait of the Dauphin Louis-Joseph by Dagoty, in the castle of Champ-de-Bataille. In the painting in large, the child throws a rose (feminine symbol) and brandishes the branch of laurel (symbol of glory), illustrating there his passage from the world of women ( his governesses) to the world of men. In the miniature by Laurent, the child, younger, is at the time of the portrait still educated by a feminine circle of acquaintances.TECHNIQUE:
