Empire miniature , signed to the right : Calliano fecit.

Giambattista Calliano was born in Muzzano  (Italy )in 1775. He worked in Turin and Milan , then he finishes his days in Madrid (Spain) in 1821.

The Victoria and Albert Museum possesses a miniature portrait of Pauline Borghèse signed Calliano.

Contrary to what describes Schidlof, Calliano offers here a miniature with a mastered drawing and a touch reminding  Frédéric Dubois.

Our miniature is an octagonal ivory, under a circular glass the lapel of which is painted in black and gold.
