CHARLIER Jacques (1720-1790) AND HIS STUDIO, VENUS AND LOVE, CIRCA 1770
Venus going out of bath, seizes an arrow from Love, which begs her to return it to him. Charlier took back the paintings of his contemporary François Boucher , he created also many subjects in miniature. Painter to the King, having an immense success, he had a studio near the Palais-Royal where he trained many pupils. Doubtless, this explains why we find often two versions of a same miniature (between the Musée du Louvre and the Wallace Collection for example) . Thus, this miniature has another version attributed to Charlier in Wallace Collection.TECHNIQUE:
